Rupert Gets Brave
MINI MINI STORIES

Rupert the Cat had a very brave-sounding name.
But Rupert was afraid of mice.
Not because mice were big or fierce.
They were quite the opposite.
Rupert simply thought they were too quick, too quiet, and far too good at appearing where they were least expected.
Every morning, he searched the garden.
Under the flowerpot.
Behind the watering can.
Inside the old bucket.
Just in case a mouse was hiding nearby.
But on this particular morning, while Rupert was enjoying a quiet nap,a tiny grey mouse appeared.
Rupert froze. He watched carefully.
This mouse did not scare him.
It simply sat nearby and nibbled a little seed.
Day after day, he watched the mouse a little longer.
He noticed how gently it moved.
How carefully it carried food home.
How it stopped to enjoy the flowers and sunshine.
Slowly, Rupert realized the mouse was not something to fear.
It was something to know.
Rupert learned that sometimes the things we fear are only things we haven't taken the time to understand.
