Clover's Meadow Song

On the edge of a meadow lived a young cricket named Clover who loved music.

Every night, he listened to the older crickets singing beneath the stars. He thought their songs were rich and beautiful.
Clover wished he could make music just like them.

So he practiced every day.
But no matter how hard he tried, he felt he never sounded as good as the other crickets.

One evening, a wise old cricket named Fern listened to Clover play.“Perhaps you need to stop trying so hard,” Fern said.

Clover looked puzzled.
“What should I do then?”

“Go explore,” Fern replied. “Listen to the world around you. Then feel the music in your heart.”

Though this left Clover a bit confused, the next day he decided to follow Fern's advice. He would simply wander through the meadow and observe.

As he walked, he noticed dew sparkle on the grass.
He listened to frogs calling from the pond.
He followed a butterfly drifting among the wildflowers.
He even stopped to listen to the breeze rustling through the tall grass.

That night, Clover felt very happy. He had had a wonderful day.
So happy, in fact, that he simply sat beneath the stars and began to play.

This time, he didn't think about sounding like anyone else.
He simply played what he had heard.

The frogs.
The breeze.
The rustling grass.
The quiet hum of the meadow.

One by one, the other crickets stopped singing and listened.

"What a lovely tune,” they said.

Clover simply smiled.

For the first time, he wasn't trying to make music like the other crickets. He was simply making his own.

A little something to think about

In this story, Clover thought he needed to make music like the other crickets. But when he stopped trying so hard and simply listened to the world around him, he discovered that his own experiences could inspire beautiful music.

The moral:

When we take time to notice the little things around us, they can inspire something wonderful.

What little thing have you noticed lately that made you smile?
