A Flower for Nectarine

MINI MINI STORIES

Nectarine the hummingbird and a purple aster

Nectarine was a happy little hummingbird.

Every morning she flew to the same flower.
It was her favorite flower in the whole garden.
A blue Aster.

She loved its bright color.
She loved its sweet nectar.
And she especially loved the little branch right next to Aster, where she could rest when she was tired.

Every morning, she would hover beside Aster and say,

“Good morning!”

And Aster the flower would gently sway in the breeze as if waving hello.

One morning, Nectarine flew into the garden as usual.

She zipped past the roses.
She flew over the daisies.

And then she stopped.

Aster was gone.

Nectarine flew around the garden looking for it.

She looked behind the bushes.
She looked under the leaves.
She flew from one corner of the garden to the other, searching everywhere.

But Aster was nowhere to be found.

Nectarine felt very sad.

She knew that beautiful flowers like Aster did not stick around forever.
Eventually, they dried out and disappeared.
But knowing this did not make her feel any better.

Then, one day, as Nectarine was flying through another part of the garden, something caught her eye.

A bright red flower was swaying in the breeze.

Nectarine flew closer.

It wasn't Aster, of course.
But it was beautiful in its own way.
Its bright, trumpet-shaped petals seemed to glow in the afternoon sun.

Nectarine hovered beside it.

“Good afternoon,” she said.

The red flower swayed gently.

Then she smiled.

She still missed Aster.

But she was beginning to discover that losing something beautiful did not mean there would never be anything beautiful again.

A little something to think about

In this story, Nectarine was very sad when Aster was gone. She knew she would always miss her favorite flower, but that didn't mean she could never be happy again.

The moral:

It's okay to miss what we've lost and still find happiness in something new.

Can you think of something that made you happy again after you were sad?
