There once was a talking pea who thought it was time to be more important.
So he decided to make himself king.

“I dub myself King Talking Pea, ruler of the garden creatures!”
he declared one day.

“Bow!” he ordered the beetles.
“March!” he told the ants.
“Stand guard!” he demanded of the earthworms.

The beetles kept walking.
The ants kept carrying crumbs.
And the earthworm kept churning earth.

“Why is nobody listening to me?” cried the pea.

The garden creatures looked at him.
“We’re all just garden creatures,” said one of the ants.

The talking pea puffed himself up.
“But I’m the king!”

“You’re a pea,” said the earthworm.
“Part of the garden, just like us!”

The talking pea sank, deflated... into a tiny green pile of mush.
Maybe being important wasn't about standing above everyone else.
Maybe it was about standing alongside them.
