Freya the Frog loved to hop about the pond just for fun.

On this particular day, she noticed a beautiful blue dragonfly that landed on a reed across the water.

Being the adventure-lover she was, she decided to hop towards it. Those shimmering blue wings were simply too tempting to ignore.

Hoppity hop. Hoppity hop.
But the dragonfly flew away.

Freya giggled as she followed.
Hoppity hop. Hoppity hop.

The dragonfly landed on a rock but flew away again as soon as Freya arrived.

This continued for quite some time, and Freya was beginning to take it personally.

She tried sneaking up on it.
She tried jumping at it.
She even tried pretending she wasn't interested.

Nothing worked. It was as if the dragonfly could read her mind.
It always seemed to know when Freya was about to make her move.

Eventually, a dismayed Freya sat down at the edge of the pond.
“I give up,” she sighed.

Then she remembered her brother Frodo.
When he put it in his mind to be the best jumper, he would not quit.

Frodo had then told her that giving up was not the answer.
Sometimes, you just had to change the way you thought about things.

So Freya decided there was no point chasing after the dragonfly.
She would just sit quietly and enjoy the pond.

To her surprise, the dragonfly came back and landed on a reed right beside her!

Freya stayed perfectly still.
For once, she didn't feel the need to hop after it.

She sat there and watched as the dragonfly opened and closed its shimmering blue wings in the sunshine.

It seemed to be doing it just for her.

And somehow, that was even better than catching it.

Freya had discovered something very important:

Sometimes, when you're patient, things turn out better than you expected.

A little something to think about

In this short story, Freya thought she had to keep chasing the dragonfly to get a closer look. But when she stopped and waited, she got to enjoy it in a way she hadn't expected.

The moral:

When we are patient and stop trying to hurry things along, things can turn out better than we imagined.

Can you think of something that might be better if you wait?
