Bernice the Long-Way Bee

MINI MINI STORIES

Bernice the bee was not a very fast bee.

Now bees are normally quite efficient.
Zip here. Zip there. Buzz-buzz-buzz.
Same routes. Same rhythm. Same time of day.

But Bernice liked to take the long way.
Instead of flying straight to the clover field like the other bees, Bernice drifted in gentle loops, and took her time to notice interesting things.

“Bernice!” called Stickler Bee one morning. “You’ll never finish your nectar-collecting if you wander like that!”

Bernice tilted her fuzzy head.
“What? I like noticing stuff!” she said.

And with that, she continued on her way.

She drifted lazily around a bright pink flower. Then she watched a ladybug carefully climbing a stem. And she noticed a drop of water resting quietly on a leaf.

Eventually, she collected her nectar like always.

But that day, she brought back stories of what she had seen. The bees were quiet as they listened to Bernice.

Then, the next morning, something shifted.

The bees that had always flown in straight lines began to notice many interesting things.

Like Bernice, they realized that sometimes the long way can be full of beautiful surprises.

After that, nothing felt quite as ordinary again.
