The Twirleedoo

Today, I decided to write about a mysterious, age-old dog ritual.
Every dog knows it, of course, but humans? Nope.
They don’t even have a word for it. But I do:

The Twirleedoo.

For clarity’s sake, it means turning in a small circle just before settling down.

One turn may be enough. Sometimes two are required. On particularly complicated beds, three or more may be necessary. The exact number depends on the bed, the moment, and the dog.

No one knows exactly where the Twirleedoo came from.

Some believe it is a very old dog tradition, passed down through generations of excellent nappers. Others believe the bed itself guides the Twirleedoo, like a quiet dog whisperer. Who knows?

Giggle Sprout attempted a Twirleedoo yesterday.

He spun once.
Then he spun again.
Then he tipped over.

“I think I did it,” he said from the floor.

“You did something,” I replied.

After careful observation, I have reached the following conclusion:

The Twirleedoo is not easy to master.
But when performed correctly, it results in the most satisfying thing a dog can experience:
A quiet vortex, spinning them straight into the sweetest dreams.

Notes to Self:

  • Consider adding a small fan or soft music for optimal vortex effect.

  • Buy a small fan.

  • Open a Twirleedoo-coaching business for sprouts.
