The Long-Nose Method

THE CHRONICLES

Dear Chronicle,

Today I'd like to tell you about a very entertaining game.
It is called Hide-and-Seek.

I have discovered that, with the proper technique, it is an excellent game for dachshunds.

Giggle Sprout says it is just for cats.
But I say never mind that talking vegetable.

Because i discovered The Long-Nose Method.
And it changes everything.

So this is how it goes:

I hide.
Mom & Dad seek.

I usually choose one of three locations.
Under the armchair in the living room.
In the front hall closet.
Or under the kitchen table.

The armchair is my favourite.
I can sit there and watch them for a long time without being seen.

What I do is crouch very low.
Then I stick my nose out just enough to see what they are doing.
This is The Long-Nose Method.

For some reason, they always notice my nose.
I know because as soon as it appears, they start laughing.
And yet they still can't figure out where I am.
That's the beauty of this method!

I watch them search, wagging my tail.

“Skipper-Bloo? Where are you?”
“Where is he?”

They walk right past me.
There is a lot of giggling going on.
Clearly, they need better training.

I tried to figure out why they laugh so uncontrollably.
I suppose they think the nose is there all by itself.
Belonging to no one.

Anyway, sometimes, if they take too long, I give them a little hint.
Just one.

“Arf!”

Then I wait.
Perfectly still.

Giggle Sprout thinks this is where I go wrong.

He says that if someone is looking for you, you should help them.

I explained to him that this is not how the game works.
But he just doesn't care.

He once came out from his hiding place and announced proudly, with his arms outstretched:

“Tadam! Here we are!”

I have decided he is not ready for this advanced game of the minds.

As for me, I just wait...
And wait.

Eventually, someone figures out that the nose belongs to me.

“There you are!” and they laugh some more.

I know I'm here.
I knew where I was the whole time.

I wag my tail.

Yup. I did it again.
