The Flight of the Dad
THE CHRONICLES

Dear Chronicle,
Yesterday (or possibly the day before, because time can be unreliable when one is small and busy observing), I was walking Dad when something unexpected happened.
The ground was covered in fluffy snow.
But underneath it, the ice was hiding.
Very sneaky.
To the untrained eye, everything looked perfectly safe.
Dad stepped forward confidently.
I watched closely.
One leg went forward while the other one went sideways.
Then Dad's arms began waving about in wide circles, as if he were suddenly trying to fly.
There were several impressive noises.
Then Dad took off.
Not very far, admittedly.
But definitely off the ground.
I sat very still, processing the situation in a calm and professional manner.
Dad eventually stood up again, though he looked somewhat rumpled.
I believe his first flight was a success.
He did not seem to agree.
I realize the ice had behaved in a most underhanded way,
but I have to admit it produced some impressive results.
Anyways, I think Dad deserves a medal for surviving with dignity.
I probably deserve one too, for remaining calm throughout the entire event.
I shall be keeping a close eye on Dad from now on.
One never knows when he might decide to fly again.
